Frequently Asked Questions

Are you accepting new patients?

Dr Meller and Dr Nguyen have limited availability in their practices at this time. Contact us for additional information.

May I contact you prior to scheduling an appointment? I'm unsure if this is right for me.

Absolutely. You can call or email us for a brief phone consultation so that we can understand your presenting issues, discuss any questions or concerns that you may have, while also ensuring that we are the appropriate doctors for your care.

Do you see adults? The website lists both Dr. Meller and Dr. Nguyen as Child & Adolescent Psychiatrists.

Yes! At our practice we see a wide age range including adults, children and adolescents. In fact, we believe that our child & adolescent subspecialty training makes us even more competent adult psychiatrists. The development and maturation that each person undergoes in childhood greatly influences our adult lives. This inherent aspect of child & adolescent training allows us to have a more comprehensive understanding of each individual, further enhancing our ability to help you.

Do I really need to fill out the "New Patient Packet" and send it to you prior to my first session?

This is highly encouraged. By completing the New Patient Packet previous to your appointment, you will allow us to dedicate more time in our session to understanding the nature of the presenting issues.

What can I expect from my first session?

You will have the doctor's undivided attention.  He will ask questions to obtain a thorough history of the presenting issues while simultaneously getting to know you as an individual.  By the end of the consultation, he will conceptualize his understanding of the problems and provide treatment recommendations.

You will have the opportunity to provide your own perspective on the issues and treatments to allow your doctor to adapt his recommendations to personalize your care. Most importantly, you will get a sense as to whether he can be a helpful presence in your life.

How long are your sessions?

Initial consultation sessions range between 60 to 90 minutes depending on the complexities of the issues. Follow-up sessions are 30 to 45 minutes.

I already have a therapist. How would the doctors fit in with my treatment?

Dr. Meller and Dr. Nguyen pride themselves on collaborative care and strive to maintain open communication with your therapists (with your permission) to improve your treatment. We will gladly discuss how your medication management fits in with your ongoing therapy.  We are available to your therapists by direct phone conferencing and visually with the use of our telepsychiatry software.

You mentioned telepsychiatry. How does that work?

This unique service is a high-tech option offered to our patients who have established regular care in our practice and now prefer video sessions from the comfort of their own home, or for those who are unable to make it to our office due to various reasons (ie. travel, sick, moved away for school or work) and would like to keep their sessions with our doctors.

How does your practice handle billing?

Dr. Nguyen is an in-network provider with Aetna and Cigna, while Dr. Meller is an in-network provider with only Aetna. Claims are submitted by providers for those using their insurance. For those using self-pay, the doctors will provide an itemized receipt you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits.

What is your cancellation policy?

We value and respect your time and expect the same in return. We keep a 48 hour cancellation policy and reserve the right to charge a full session's fee for missed appointments or cancellations without adequate notice.
